Description

Why, in a musical, does everyone suddenly burst into song and dance? Italian choreographer and performer Marco D’Agostin takes great delight in playing with the mechanics of this highly codified popular genre. He imagines a character who comes to tell us about an asteroid striking Earth and the extinction of the dinosaurs. But little by little, a strange force takes hold of him: movement spills beyond speech, the voice falls out of sync, the body spirals out of control and emotions surge. The performance then transforms into a Broadway-style show, complete with its share of seduction, artifice and dramatic twists. Blending paleontology, dance and love, Marco D’Agostin crafts a brilliant score for voice and body, celebrating the extraordinary ability of life—and therefore of art—to continually be reborn in new forms. Of course, love stories can shatter as suddenly as an asteroid crashing to Earth, but there will always be reasons to hope—and to rejoice.
